It’s difficult to comprehend how famous Lionel Messi is. Anytime he’s scheduled to take the pitch, that match becomes an event. In May of 2025, the Loons hosted the Herons at Allianz Field in Saint Paul, MN, and I was tapped to create promotional pieces worthy of a match against the GOAT.

Create a collection of promotional merch to commemorate one of the biggest matches in Minnesota United’s history.

This wasn’t a “throw the logo on it” kind of a project. In the weeks leading up to the match a grudge began to develop between the teams. The cornerstone of the creative was an illustration designed to capture the tension of the moment. The resulting merch would sell out before kickoff, including 10,000 shirts.
